Help at hand for Eczema, Feng Shui and Keeping Your Memory Strong

Two unlikely causes of eczema and some Feng Shui tips for a better night’s sleep

Transforming lives with bars of hotel soap and… a sneak preview of the brand new Life is a Bag of Revels shop!

Keeping your memory strong and waking up more cheerful

Dear Reader,

Well, it’s all go here at the moment! My publisher and I have been working frantically to get The Life is a Bag of Revels shop up on the internet. She and the designers have done a fantastic job and it’s now looking great. Launch date due in a week or two when we’ll be giving you the ‘live’ link!

My aim is that the shop will offer a safe and friendly environment where my readers will be able to purchase copies of my books or some of the more hard-to-find products that I recommend in my emails.

The shop will offer safe and worry-free internet shopping because:

We have used the latest technology to ensure that your card details are completely safe.

Rather than you buying products from unknown suppliers, we are buying them in bulk from them and then making them available on our shop.

Any purchases you make will be directly from us so you know you will get what you ordered and you know who you’re dealing with.

I also hope you’ll love the range of products we’ll be stocking. You’ll find, for example:

All the supplements and alternative medicines we’ve recommended in the past that we have up ‘till now been featuring on the general publisher’s website. Take a look at the current list of natural beauty products

And much more! In fact, we’re hoping to add a whole lot more over the coming months so we’ll keep you posted.

Anyway… With my brain a little less focused than it usually is this week, I’ve decided that for today’s email I would put together some of the many little nuggets I’ve accumulated but haven’t been able to make use of yet.

Here then are some mostly unrelated but hopefully interesting or useful tips for you:

One fascinating tip I got in from reader Fred was about the potassium in bananas being a cause of eczema in some people. His own eczema had started around the time when he started eating a banana each morning when he took his supplements. The problem had persisted for 17 years but cleared up slowly and has now vanished now that he no longer eats bananas!

Also on the subject of eczema, I had an email from Frank, a reader who said that his eczema cleared up when he stopped using modern soaps and shampoos and replaced them with old-fashioned ‘curd soaps’ made from plant-based oils such as olive oil or coconut oil. “And within 3 weeks my eczema disappeared and never came back”.

On the subject of soap, I have just been reading an article about The Global Soap Project which was created by Derreck Kayango a refuge from Uganda who is now a US citizen. Every year, millions of children in poor countries get sick and die because of poor sanitation - a lot of which could have been avoided if they’d had a bar of soap. What Kayongo now does - with the help of a network of volunteers - is to collect barely-used bars of soap from hotels, clean them and make them into new bars which are then given to low-income families around the world.

So it really doesn’t take much to make a huge difference. And in a smaller way there is probably some way that each of us can do something every day of our lives to make a difference to somebody else’s life.

If you’re the kind of person who feels grumpy in the morning, try doing something about it so that you start off the day in a more positive frame of mind and attitude. How you feel in the morning is important so make sure you’re looking after yourself. Are there things that you hate about the morning routine? Are there things you could add - a nice smelling soap, warm slippers, a cup of tea in bed etc - that would make it a more pleasant experience? Also remember to drink plenty of fluids when you wake up because your body loses a lot of water during the night. Try waking up ten minutes earlier and using that time to make your mornings more pleasing and fun.

If you sometimes get unexplained attacks of headaches, stomach pains, lethargy or just feeling vaguely unwell, try keeping a food diary to see whether it could be caused by a food you’re eating. Common foods that can cause this kind of bad reaction in people include milk, wheat, yeast, goat’s milk, kidney beans, eggs, prawns, blackcurrant, sunflower seeds, oats, peas, salmon and olives.

“The business of an “artist” said Pablo Picasso “is to find where God is hiding!” Even if you don’t believe in a God as such, it can certainly enrich your life to look for him!

For a better night’s sleep, clear out any clutter from your bedroom. Clear out anything that doesn’t belong in a bedroom. Treating your bedroom as a dumping ground is like treating your mind as a rubbish dump too! Feng Shui expert Karen Kingston says ”Stale energy hangs around dirty laundry so never keep a laundry basket in the bedroom, and be sure to change your bed sheets at least once a week to keep your energy vital and fresh.”

To keep your memory in tip-top condition: Find reading materials on new and interesting topics and read them aloud; try writing well-written articles on subjects you’re knowledgeable about (for your own stimulation or you could try publishing them; make yourself do a set of simple sums each day - such as 45 X 9 or 20% of 60.

Goodbye for now!
