Really amazing manuka at a really amazing price

Forget about keeping up with the wine buffs and become a honey connoisseur instead!

Each of these three sublimely flavoured honeys has its own different medicinal qualities too!

And you won’t find them anywhere else in the UK!

Dear Reader,

This year our men on the ground in New Zealand have truly excelled themselves in finding a brand new supplier… with a brand new ethos… a cheaper price range… and some of the most incredible-tasting honeys you will ever experience.

If you’ve missed my manuka honey emails in the past then I’ve included some details below about how this anti-oxidant, anti-viral and anti inflammatory honey can be used for treating a whole doctor’s surgery full of conditions including MRSA, sore throats, infection, gum disease, digestive problems and wounds.

As I’ve also said in the past, to really work its magic, manuka honey should be pure and unrefined - unlike a lot of what you will find on the supermarket shelves.

This new honey that we have found for you is super-strength and super-pure. Other unique benefits include:

It’s 100% organic.
It can be traced, by you, back to the individual beekeeper who provided it.
Never turns to crystals in the cupboard.
The FIRST honey in the world to be certified as carbon neutral
Completely unblended so that each jar is from the same year, the same farm and the same hive.
And the jars are really beautiful and look amazing on my shelf!

Another interesting thing about these honeys from J. Friend and Co is that we are currently the only suppliers of these artisan honeys in the UK.

Limited supplies - buy some of this honey now I’ve certainly never tasted honey quite like this before!

Although probably the most important factor of all is their incredible flavours. If you ever thought honey was honey then this is your chance to become a real connoisseur.

“All honey is not created equal. In fact, much like a fine wine the different flowers or nectar the bees feast on will give honey a completely unique flavour, colour and sweetness.

“Creating single flower honeys is the craft of the beekeeper. It depends on the careful placement of the hives.”

The three flavours that we have in our shop at the moment (along with their medicinal health benefits) are:

Artisan Wild Thyme honey

A bold and aromatic honey often referred to as the Gorgonzola of honey. It is caramel in colour with an intense aroma and savory flavour with heathery, grassy and woody notes with a hint of lanolin.

Health benefits: Wild Thyme honey has at least a three times greater anti-oxidant rating than any other honey. This makes it ideal for protecting body tissues from free radicals and is good for looking after your heart and circulation.

Beechwood honeydew

This is a true connoisseur’s honey. It is a naturally dark amber liquid honey, resembling golden syrup, with a bold pungent nose. It has floral and rose flavours with earthy undertones and hints of vanilla and malt.

Health Benefits: Beechwood Honeydew honey is rich in oligosaccharides which are helpful in maintaining and promoting beneficial bacteria in the gut. Good to take if you’ve been on a course of antibiotics or are experiencing digestive problems. Rich in antibacterial properties and high in anti-oxidants, this is also a good general health-promoting honey.

Manuka Honey

This is a complex, intense and chewy honey with rich toffee and caramel flavours and coconut, woody, nutty notes.

Health Benefits: Propolis in this honey helps protect against the spread of bacteria, viruses and fungi. It also appears to help stimulate the human immune system, prevent infection and speed up recovery from wounds. Bee pollen contains B vitamins for energy, vitamin C for immune support and a wide range of minerals.

So how exactly do you use this honey to make the most of all its medicinal effects? Here’s a collection of tips for using this medicinal honey that I’ve written in the past:

Why every home SHOULD have a couple of jars at hand -especially in the winter

Buy all three honeys for under £20 (incl. p&p)

So what exactly is it that manuka honey is good for?

Protection from bugs including MRSA. Perhaps the thing that most convinced me of it’s amazing ability to fight infection and keep us all well, however, was how successfully it had been employed against the MRSA bug in hospitals.
It had recently been announced, for example, that bandages soaked in manuka honey were being given to mouth cancer patients at the Christie Hospital in Manchester to reduce their chances of contracting the MRSA superbug and to lessen wound inflammation following surgery.

As manuka honey is brilliant at fighting infection and boosting the immune system, start taking three teaspoonfuls a day and those legions of viruses around may never get a hold on you. Keep the honey in your mouth for as long as possible before swallowing to destroy sore throat bugs in particular.

Worried about gum disease and tooth decay? Amazingly considering its sugar content, manuka honey has been found to disrupt three types of bacteria in the mouth which cause tooth decay. One particular researcher, a Professor Molan, recommends rubbing manuka into the gums. Alternatively, since it retains its anti-microbial properties even when diluted up to 50 times, it can be used as a mouthwash.

If a child starts sounding hoarse and looking poorly… Do you reach for the Calpol bottle now that it has been linked to increased incidences of asthma… or do you use a medicine that has been used for centuries as a treatment for sore throats and colds? In fact, a 2007 study by Penn State College of Medicine showed that honey was more effective for treating children’s coughs than cough syrups from the chemist’s. Mixing it with lemon, ginger and even garlic provides even more nutritional support. Don’t add hot water to manuka honey, though, as this can reduce its antibacterial properties.

When you have problems with your stomach or bowels. Just three teaspoonfuls of manuka honey can be an effective treatment for all kind of digestive problems including diarrhoea, indigestion, acid and heartburn and even stomach ulcers. The Univeristy of Waikato even found that manuka honey can be highly effective against the Helicobacter Pylori bacteria that causes gastric ulcers. Many users even report that this wonder honey has healed up persistent digestive problems that nothing else has been able to cure for decades.

For treating wounds. Manuka honey is now being used for wound healing not only by individuals and alternative practitioners, but also by hospitals in the UK. Not only does it have great cleaning and antibacterial qualities, it also helps speed up the healing by keeping the wound moist and also lessens the scarring. In one trial conducted at Aintree hospital in Liverpool to see how effective it could be for leg ulcers, a clinical nurse reported: “I have one patient who has had leg ulcers for 40 years that are now well on the way to healing, and another who had leg ulcers for 21 years that cleared up in a year.” How to use it? Just rub a small amount onto any wound and apply a plaster or bandage. Indeed, I remember a man I used to work with who used to treat a terrible infection he developed after having an ingrown hair removed from his backside! Change dressings once a day.

Keep it in the first aid box for burns or wounds. One of the most convincing reports, published in the 1998 issue of the journal Burns, tells how researchers from the Dr. V. M. Medical College in Maharashtra, India, compared honey with silver sulfadiazine, the standard treatment for superficial burns. In the patients treated with honey, 87% healed within 15 days, compared with 10% of those treated with silver sulfadiazine. The honey-treated patients also experienced less pain, leaking of wound fluid, and scarring.

Fungal infections including athletes foot and fungal nail? You’ve got it… manuka honey is very effective in inhibiting the growth of fungi as well. I’m not quite convinced myself, however, that I’ll be smearing honey between my own toes quite yet…

Energy flagging or just feel like a pick-me-up? Many dedicated manuka honey users take a few teaspoonfuls a day as a general health booster. It can also be used on one-off occasions when you feel in need of an energizer.

So grab yourself some jars now

Best wishes
