Clutter, clutter everywhere and not a space to think.
Clear out the cupboards now and give your mind a nice cool drink...
According to the leading experts on this matter, the more clutter you have in your home, the more likely you are to be stuck in certain parts or even the whole of your life.
Whether it’s over-crammed cupboards, stacks of paperwork or general stacking up everywhere, the clutter we have in our homes can offer us a very accurate reflection of where we are in our lives, what parts of it are congested, and why we are failing to move forward.
Hit the right spot and you could completely change your life
It is amazing but true that simply taking radical steps to clear your home of clutter can have a massively energising and catalytic effect on your life. In her book, Clear Your Clutter, for example, Feng Shui expert Karen Kingston tells of a man whose business had plateaued and to whom she recommended that he clear out his attic. A few weeks later he wrote her and said “it has been exactly as you said - like taking the lid off my business. It has completely taken off in new and exciting ways, like a dream come true.”
In another lady’s house that she visited for a consultation, she realised that everywhere she looked, things were decorated with single ducks. The lady herself had not even noticed the trend which they identified as being symbolic of the problem she had of never having married. When they cleared away the ducks, the lady found a man!
Mess and unfinished jobs can make you feel confused and tired
Clearing away clutter can also be a great way of giving your whole life an energy upsurge or a change of direction. When you clear away things from the past that are dragging you down, you clear a bright path for the future. And this can include any kind of clutter including disorganised piles, never-used items and any jobs that are unfinished. As Karen says,
“Your subconscious mind will suppress these things nicely for you if you ask it to but it takes a lot of energy to do so. You will be amazed at how your vitality levels soar if you complete all your unfinished business.”
Clutter could be holding you back from living the wonderful life you could be
Having too much clutter in your house can really have a very detrimental effect on your life - whether it’s actually the cause of the problems, a symptom of a problem, or a vicious circle of the two.
Too much clutter can prevent you from making important changes in you life, it can support you in your procrastination, depress you, shame you and stop you from moving forward.
Karen doesn’t say it but I think a lot of people find comfort in clutter and unfinished jobs because it can give us an excuse or reason for being where we are. Our clutter becomes us and excuses our weaknesses. But this is something we do by default rather than really needing it.
What most of us actually need now and again in our lives is for somebody looking in to give us a little guidance. A prod. To unstuck us from our stuckness.
Here are a few more quotes from Karen’s book that might just inspire you:
“I used to be a couch potato. I would come home from work and just ‘veg out’ in front of the TV every night. I did a major clutter clearing purge and now I find I have so little use for my television that I have thrown in out. I have so many interests I don’t have time to watch it.”
“At first I felt daunted buy the sheer volume of my clutter but I knew I had to clear it. What amazes me is how much better I feel after each drawer, and how the energy somehow comes from nowhere to carry on and do more.”
“I had over forty years’ memorabilia stored in my attic - old love letters, photos, trinkets and souvenirs. They were just gathering dust and entertaining the mice. I cleared the lot and converted my attic to an art studio which has now become my favourite room in the house. My new found creativity has brought me such joy.”
* Walk round your house to realise where your clutter is and what it tells you about your life. Clutter in different areas in your house might represent problems or stagnation in the areas of your finance, your creativity, your relationships, your career, your health or your family life. Clear cluttered areas until there’s nothing but space and wait for things to happen!
* Keeping things ‘just in case’ can indicate a lack of trust in the future.
* People who collect a lot of clutter are often also overweight.
* Keeping hold of things from the past can keep you stuck in the past and prevent you from moving forward. Stuff hidden away can represent issues not yet dealt with. Throw them away and get them out of your life for good!
* A cluttered front door and hallway can prevent new energy and opportunities from coming to you - and stop you from really getting out there in the world. Clear this area and feel the new energy…
Clutter clearing won’t just make great things happen in your life, it’s also a great antidote for stress and anxiety.
Start with just one small task at a time and aim to throw things out where possible rather than just move them. The less stuff you have, the lighter you will feel. The less stuff overloading your subconscious mind, the more energy you will have.
Happy de-cluttering!
